Beautiful built-in furniture. Oxford, UK.

About us

Lockwood Carpentry is a family-run business specialising in elegant and practical furniture for the home. We love making built-in bookshelves, cupboards, wardrobes, particularly in unusual and irregular-shaped spaces. We also make window-seats, understairs pull-out drawers, floating shelves, shelves on battens, and curious built-in projects that it’s sometimes tricky to find anyone to do!

Our experience and expertise runs from first consultation to final finish, working in a broad variety of materials to meet your needs.  We provide quality service that can be relied on, whether you are looking for a custom storage solution, floating shelves that fit just so, or simply that built-in cabinet you’ve always wanted in the corner.

Testimonials

“We asked Jonathan Everett to build a set of bespoke bookshelves, with cupboards beneath, in a complex under-stair site. We explained what we wanted: he not only understood our complicated ideas but improved on them in his beautifully drawn designs. He executed these designs with real craftsmanship. Jonathan Everett is not merely an accomplished carpenter: he is an artist, who takes a real pride in his work.”

— William, Marston

“Lockwood Carpentry completed two complicated joinery projects for us: fitting a porch and making a set of 17 bespoke windowsills in oak. Both jobs were completed to the highest standard. Jonathan and Joy are a delight to work with.”

— Jo & Ian, South Oxford

“Lockwood Carpentry have worked for us on different projects for the past four years at different times as we have renovated our 1760-built house. Jonathan has always produced work of the highest quality. The jobs are neatly completed in a timely manner and most recently he has produced a major new kitchen installation which we are currently enjoying.”

— Ken & Mary, Abingdon

Our story

Lockwood Carpentry was started by Jonathan Everett in 2010.

Jonathan’s route to owning his own carpentry business was slightly unconventional. He had always envisaged a career in civil engineering, but some time in 2006 working on a trawler in the North Atlantic and then as a manual labourer in the windswept Faroe Islands convinced him that hands-on work was the job for him.

Returning to Oxford, Jonathan completed a three-year apprenticeship in carpentry and joinery. He was able to take Lockwood Carpentry full time in 2011, and it was at this point that inspiration struck for a fully outfitted carpenter’s van. The process of designing and building an operational working space began immediately.

‘Iron Van’ hit the road not long afterwards, and Jonathan puts his mobile workshop to good use as he works to combine engineering with architectural detail, and create beautiful built-in furniture.
